Szum ( German Schumm , 1936-1945 Forstheim ) is a place of Gmina Wołczyn in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland .

Geographical location
Szum is located in the northwestern part of Upper Silesia in the Kreuzburger Land. The village of Szum is located about eight kilometers southwest of the municipality seat Wołczyn , about 19 kilometers west of the district town of Kluczbork and about 44 kilometers northeast of the voivodeship capital Opole .
The village is on the left bank of the Stober . To the south of the village are extensive forest areas that belong to the Stobrawski Landscape Protection Park .

history
The name is derived from the Polish word szum ( wind shower ).
In 1845 the village consisted of a Catholic church, a farm and another 25 houses. In the same year 286 people lived in Schumm, 44 of them Protestants.
In 1874 the administrative district Jagdschloss Bodland was founded, to which Schumm belonged.
In 1925 506 people lived in Schumm, in 1933 587 people. On July 29, 1936, the village name was changed to Forstheim . On April 1, 1939, Forstheim was incorporated into the community of Stoberbrück . Until 1945 the village belonged to the district of Rosenberg OS
As a result of the Second World War, Schumm fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . Subsequently, the place was renamed Szum and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Kluczborski ( Kreuzburg district ).

- The Roman Catholic St. Francis of Assisi Church ( Kościół św. Franciszka z Asyżu ) was built in 1928 in neo-Romanesque style.
