Rożnów ( German Rosen ) is a place of Gmina Wołczyn in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland .

Geographical location

Rożnów is located in the north-western part of Upper Silesia in the Kreuzburger Land. The village of Rożnów is about eight kilometers northeast of the municipality seat Wołczyn , about 12 kilometers northwest of the district town of Kluczbork and about 58 kilometers northeast of the voivodeship capital Opole .

The village of Rosen is first mentioned in 1297. A church was first mentioned in the village in 1376. In 1406 the village was mentioned as Rosenaw . In 1530 the village church was converted into a Protestant church.

In 1788 a new wooden church was built under the landlord General von Eben.

In 1845 the village of Rosen consisted of two districts, Nieder- and Ober-Rosen. The district Nieder-Rosen (Polish Dolny Rożnów ) consisted in 1845 of a castle and another 26 houses. In the same year, 232 people lived in Nieder-Rosen, 41 of them Catholic and one Jewish. Ober-Rosen (Polish: Wierzchni or Rożnów ) consisted in 1845 of a Protestant church, an outbuilding, a distillery and a further 34 houses. In the same year 348 people lived in Ober-Rosen, 51 of them Catholic and five Jewish. In 1874 the district of Rosen was founded, which comprised the two rural communities of Ober- and Nieder-Rosen. The first head of office was the manor owner Hugo von Treu.

In 1933 there were 608 people in Rosen, and in 1939 again 494 people. Until 1945 the village belonged to the Kreuzburg OS district

As a result of the Second World War, Stoberbrück fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . Subsequently, the place was renamed Rożnów and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the village was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 Rożnów came to the newly founded Powiat Kluczborski ( Kreuzburg district ).

Attractions

  • The Roman Catholic scrap wood church of the Holy Trinity (Polish: kościół ewangelicki pod wezwaniem św. Trójcy ) was built in 1788 as a Protestant church. A church in the village was mentioned as early as 1376, which became Protestant in 1530. In 1930 the church was renovated. The church has a rectangular floor plan with a choir closed on three sides. On the west side there is a bell tower with an onion dome. The main altar has a Gothic triptych , which was made in Wroclaw around 1500. The baptismal font was made around 1700.
  • To the west of the church is the pyramid tomb , which was built in 1780 according to a design by the architect Carl Gotthard Langhans on behalf of Lieutenant General Carl Adolf August von Eben und Brunnen and the general's widow Anna von Möhring and completed in October 1780.
  • The Rose Castle was built in the second half of the 19th century neo-gothic mansion. On the south side there is a rectangular tower decorated with battlements. The castle is now in ruins and is privately owned.
  • The castle is surrounded by a large landscaped park with numerous ponds and an old population of trees.
