Zekeriya Güçlü
Zekeriya Güçlü ( Bulgarian Зекерие Гючлю , Sekerie Gjutschlju ; born April 27, 1972 in Kriwiza , near Samuil , Bulgaria ; † February 20, 2010 in Istanbul , Turkey ) was a Turkish and Bulgarian wrestler and politician of the DPS . He was world heavyweight champion in free style in 1997 and a 2008 councilor in the Bulgarian city of Samuil.
Career
Zekeriya Güçlü was born in Bulgaria as a member of the Turkish minority . There he came to wrestle as a teenager and became a member of the Bulgarian youth national team in free style. During a competition in Hungary he fled to the Turkish consulate in Budapest and came to Turkey this way.
In Turkey he became a member of the Istanbul Gemi Sanayi Spor Kulübü wrestling club and later the Gebze Belediye Spor Kulübü club , where he was trained by D. Turan and İsmail Nizamoğlu. He was a full-grown heavyweight from an early age, weighing almost 130 kg at a height of 1.80 meters.
He began his international career at the Junior World Championships 1990 (Juniors) in Istanbul, where he won the heavyweight championship before Reza Kordjazi from Iran and Boschko Matew from Bulgaria. At the Junior World Championships in 1991 (Espoirs) in Prievidza he came in the heavyweight division behind Shorik Kashinov from Russia on the 2nd place. Finally, in 1992 in Székesfehérvár , he was also Junior European Champion with the Espoirs, ahead of Tibor Balogh from Hungary.
After his junior years, Zekeriya Güçlü did not appear in any international championships until 1997. The reason was the outstanding Turkish heavyweight wrestler Mahmut Demir , Olympic champion in 1996 and Aydın Polatçı , who contested the starting places for him. But in 1995 he became military world champion ahead of Jurij Schobitko from Ukraine and Oleg Chorpjakow from Russia and came in second at the 1996 World University Championships in Tehran behind Aljaksej Mjadswedseu from Belarus .
In 1997 he was used at the World Championships in Krasnoyarsk and there he won with victories over Aljaksej Mjadswedseu, Ebrahim Mehrabi from Iran, Oleg Ladik from Canada , Jurij Schobitko and others. Alexis Rodríguez Valera from Cuba new heavyweight world champion. That was the greatest success of his entire career.
Zekeriya Güçlü started at the 2000 European Championships in Budapest, but lost there after a victory over Aljaksej Mjadswedseu against David Musuľbes from Russia , which meant that he had to retire according to the rules of the time and only finished 9th. But he was in Tokyo universities world heavyweight champion in 2000 before Justin David Beauparlant from Canada.
In 2001 Zekeriya Güçlü lost at the European Championships in Budapest against Sven Thiele from Germany and Iwan Ischtschenko from Ukraine, which put him in 8th place. At the end of his career he won a bronze medal again in 2002 at the European Heavyweight Championships in Baku after victories over Jurij Schobitko and Italy's Donatus Manza, a defeat against David Musuľbes and a victory over Sven Thiele.
After finishing his career, Güçlü became a businessman and politician of the Dwischenie sa Prawa i Swobodi (DPS) party in his home village of Kriwiza . Since 2008 he has been the district chairman of the DPS and a member of the town council of Samuil.
Zekeriya Güçlü died in February 2010 after a three-month stay in an Istanbul clinic.
