Zhang Pengxiang ( Chinese 張鵬翔 / 张鹏翔 , Pinyin Zhāng Péngxiáng ; born June 29, 1980 in Tianjin ) is a Chinese chess player .
Life
In 1996, Zhang FIDE Master , International Master , he was 1998. Grand Master is he since August 2001; the last norm he reached at the Asian individual championship in Calcutta .
In November 2001 he succeeded in eliminating former world champion Anatoly Karpov in the first round of the World Chess Championship of the World Chess Federation FIDE in Moscow . Karpov has been the model of Zhang Pengxiang since he was five. The first two games ended in a draw, the third game was won by Zhang. In the fourth game, which was to bring the decision, Zhang Pengxiang managed to keep Karpov busy enough that he gave up because he didn't have enough time.
In March 2002 he won the Linares Open. In the same year he became a Chinese master. At the Asian Team Championship in Jodhpur in April 2003 , which he won with the Chinese national team, he received a gold medal for his result of 7 out of 8 on the first board. In March 2005 he won the Bad Wörishofen chess festival ahead of Sebastian Siebrecht and Sergey Tiviakov . In November 2006 he won the GMA Cup in Manila and in December 2006 the Singapore Masters. In September 2007 he was Asian individual champion before Wang Hao tied on points in Cebu City .
Zhang did not play an Elo rated game after the 2013 Chinese Team Championship and is therefore listed as inactive by FIDE. In April 2007 he reached his best Elo rating of 2657, which placed him in 47th place in the world and topped the Chinese rankings.
National team
With the Chinese national team, Zhang Pengxiang took part in the chess Olympiads in 2002 and 2006 , and in 2006 he finished second with the team. He also reached at the World Team Championship in 2006 with the team in second place and took part in the Asian Team Championships in 1999 and of 2003. In 2003 he won both with the team and in the individual classification on the fourth board.

In the Chinese team championship, Zhang played for Hebei from 2005 to 2013 and 2015 , and in the Dutch Meester class for VastNed Rotterdam in the 2004/05 season . For the Spanish club Gros Xake Taldea he played in the Spanish team championship in 2005, 2006 and 2008 , he also took part in the European Club Cup from 2006 to 2008 and achieved the second best result on the second board in 2008, he already has played in France for L'Echiquier Chalonnais .
