Zhao Jun ( Chinese  趙 駿  /  赵 骏 , Pinyin Zhào Jùn ; born December 12, 1986 in Jinan ) is a Chinese chess master .

Career

He achieved all the grandmaster norms required for the title in 2004. The first he secured in February at the Aeroflot Open in Moscow , the second in April at the Chinese team championships in his hometown and the third finally in December at the junior world championships in Kochi . In the latter competitions he also won the bronze medal. He was officially awarded the Grand Master title at the end of February 2005 during the FIDE Congress in Tbilisi .

He represented the People's Republic of China in May and June 2006 at the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin . There he played on the second reserve board (+2 = 0 −1) and finished in second place with the team. In the same year he won a qualification tournament of the Internet Chess Club on August 20 (10/12). This success allowed him and the runner-up Dmitry Gurevich to participate in the world blitz chess championship in Rishon LeZion in September . Zhao Jun had to cancel because of an international match against France that was taking place at the same time . In 2007 he finished third to eighth at the Asian Championships in Cebu City . He was unable to maintain this result in the following years. In 2011 in Mashhad he reached tenth place (5½ / 9) and in 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City only 39th place (4½ / 9).

Zhao Jun won the Asian Team Championship in 2008 playing on the fourth board of the Chinese team, in 2012 he played for the second team in China and achieved the second-best individual result on the third board. So far he has participated in three World Chess Cups: In 2005 in Khanty-Mansiysk he failed in the first round with ½: 1½ to Gata Kamsky , in 2007 he was able to prevail at the same place with 2½: 1½ against P. Harikrishna before he went into the second round 1½: 2½ against Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu lost. In his third participation in 2015 in Baku , he was eliminated in the first round with 1: 3 against Jan Nepomnjaschtschi .

In the Chinese Chess League Zhao Jun advocates the crew of the province of Shandong to, with whom he in 2007 and 2010 won the title.
