Zlatko Hasanbegović (born June 14, 1973 in Zagreb ) is a Croatian historian, activist and politician who is often attributed to the nationalist - right-wing extremist camp, among other things because of his advocacy for the preservation of positive remembrance of and his admiration for the anti-Semite Husein Đozo . From January to October 2016 he was Minister of Culture in the eleventh government of the Republic of Croatia . In 2017 he was expelled from the HDZ .

biography

He grew up in Zapruđe , part of the new Zagreb. As a young man during the 1980s he was a member of the Bad blue boys , a Dinamo Zagreb fan club .

Zlatko Hasanbegović is a professional historian. He works at the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences in Zagreb. He is also a publicist and publisher. In 2007 his monograph entitled Muslimans in Zagreb 1878-1945 was published. In the same year he defended his doctoral thesis The Yugoslav Muslim Organization in the Political Life of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia 1929-1941 . He received his doctorate and obtained his doctorate in Zagreb in 2009. sc.

Hasanbegović graduated in history from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zagreb .

He began his political engagement as a student, first in the Croatian Liberation Movement (HOP) founded by Ante Pavelić in exile . He later became the youth chairman of the far-right Croatian Pure Right Party (HČSP) .

He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Islamic Community in Zagreb .

Propaganda for the Waffen SS Sturmbannführer Husein Đozo

Hasanbegović considers the radical anti-Semite Husein Đozo, who played an important role in the 13th Division of the Waffen-SS from 1943 to 1945, for "one of the most striking and interesting Bosniaks " . In 2013, for example, he defended the naming of a school in Goražde, his hometown (Bosnia and Herzegovina): “If Husein ef. Oozo would be amputated from the national and Islamic identity basis (...) because of insignificant episodes in the course of his entire life and work, that would mean transforming modern Bosniak identity and modern Islamic thought into a torso without his most reliable guide. (...) Oozo's Islamic thinking of renewal is still an integral part of the Muslim Bosniaks in intellectual terms ” . Tribute to the ultra-nationalist Miro Barešić

On July 31, 2016, Hasanbegović and other Croatian politicians took part in the inauguration of a memorial to the Pavelić supporter Miro Barešić , who was convicted in 1971 of the murder of the then Yugoslav ambassador to Sweden. On this occasion, Hasanbegovic praised "the knight, the Croatian hero who sacrificed himself all his life for the idea of ​​the Croatian state" and had himself photographed together with bearers of Ustaše symbols.

In a speech in 2012 Hasanbegović said that the defeat of the Ustasha - regime was "the greatest tragedy of our nation" was. In 2007 Hasanbegović became chairman of the supervisory board of the Klagenfurt association Počasni Bleiburški vod (PBV), or Bleiburg parade of honor , which commemorates the victims of the Bleiburg massacre in 1945. On the occasion of the official Jasenovac memorial ceremony in 2009, the PBV held a press conference at which Vice Vukojević described the former Jasenovac concentration camp as follows: “The Jasenovac camp was administered by Jews. The state only guaranteed security. There is a contract between the NDH government and the Jewish community of Zagreb regarding the financing of the camp's board ”. These words were denounced by the then Prime Minister and HDZ Chairman Ivo Sanader .

Hasanbegović later left the PBV chairmanship to Vukojević; he himself remained deputy chairman until the beginning of 2016.

In March 2015 Hasanbegović once again expressed his support and admiration for Vukojević by presenting his book to the public himself; among the visitors to this presentation were a. also HDZ officials like Milijan Brkić and Miro Kovač .

HDZ politician

On June 30, 2015 Hasanbegović was co-opted into the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) , in the presence of HDZ key figures such as its then chairman Tomislav Karamarko , its general secretary Milijan Brkić and its spokesman for international affairs Miro Kovač . The HDZ is part of the European People's Party .

On January 21, 2016, he was appointed Minister of Culture by Prime Minister-designate Tihomir Orešković . This decision immediately sparked violent protests, especially in academic and cultural circles as well as in civil society. On the morning of January 22nd, before the parliamentary elections, demonstrators gathered in front of the parliament building, and Hasanbegović was even compared to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels . The new government, including Hasanbegović, was finally confirmed by a conservative majority on the evening of January 22nd. Protests continued. In April 2016 he praised the highly controversial film Jasenovac - The Truth by director Jakov Sedlar and screenwriter Hrvoje Hitrec. In early February 2016, a declaration of support from 143 Croatian historians and scholars, including Ivo Banac , was published. Hasanbegović was elected to the Presidium of the HDZ on May 28, 2016. In this election he was one of those candidates who received the most votes from the delegates.

With the fall of the government of Tihomir Orešković, his mandate as minister ended. Since then he has been a member of the Croatian Parliament.

In October 2013 he took part in scientific events in Mostar and Široki Brijeg on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of Dominik Mandić's death . Dominik Mandić was a Croatian historian, politician, and Franciscan.

Foundation of Neovisni za Hrvatsku
