David Duke (2008)

David Ernest Duke (born July 1, 1950 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American politician and prominent neo-Nazi . The former Louisiana MP was the head of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan . Duke represents the racist ideology of white supremacy over black people ( White Supremacy ), makes very frequent anti-Semitic remarks and is a well-known Holocaust denier .

Political career

Duke first ran for the Democrats in 1975 for a seat in the Louisiana Senate . This was as unsuccessful as his participation in the primaries ( primaries ) for the office of President of the United States in 1988. After his move from the Democrats to the Republican Party , he was from 1989 to 1992 deputy in the Louisiana House of Representatives . Although he had not been elected to any public office until then, he achieved in elections, e.g. B. 1991 as a candidate for Senator in Louisiana , 40 percent of the vote. Due to the considerable popularity, he received support from the journalist and politician Pat Buchanan . His re-participation in the Republican primaries for the 1992 presidential election was just as unsuccessful. David Duke announced that he was considering running for the 2012 presidential election in the United States after being asked to do so by numerous supporters of the tea party movement . After his last run for a political mandate in 1999, he announced the day after the 2016 Republican National Convention , at which Donald Trump was elected Republican candidate for the US presidential election, that he would succeed David Vitters in the November 2016 election in the US Senate. Duke had promised Trump his support in March, from which Trump - to the indignation of many political observers - had not distanced himself. When Duke then said that Trump might support him in this, he came under pressure.

Controversy

While he was studying at Louisiana State University , where he was doing his bachelor's degree in 1974, Duke founded a racist student union called the White Youth Alliance and caused a sensation by wearing a Nazi uniform and celebrating Hitler's birthday . From 1974 to 1978 he was the head of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan (Louisiana) organization, which he founded. In 1980 Duke left the clan and founded the National Association for the Advancement of White People , an organization of the White nationalism movement that continues to advocate racial segregation.

David Duke is one of the supporters of the Holocaust denier Ernst Zündel . In an interview on his own website on February 5, 2005, he described Ariel Sharon as "the worst terrorist in the world", alleged that the Mossad was involved in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and claimed that Zionists were the real masterminds of the attacks, for mood to do against Islam . He also appeared with book publications and referred to Zündel u. a. as a prisoner of war . During a visit to Syria , he accused the USA, Great Britain and other countries of "submitting to Zionism". In a TV interview he claimed that Israel and its politics "makes the Nazi state look very, very moderate". Duke was a participant in the Holocaust Conference , which took place in Tehran in December 2006 at the invitation of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad . Duke operates several internet sites and forums with a racist background. On April 24, 2009, he was arrested in Prague on suspicion of Holocaust denial, as Duke denied the Holocaust in his book The Awakening and promoted the Czech translation of the book in Prague. Denial of the Holocaust is punished in the Czech Republic with a prison sentence of up to three years. The police released Duke on condition that he leave the country as soon as possible, which he obeyed.

In December 2002, Duke was sentenced to 15 months and US $ 10,000 in prison for tax evasion and fraud . He was serving his sentence in Big Spring, Texas Prison. Duke has residences in Zell am See and the city of Salzburg . According to Austrian officials, he realizes his stay with a three-month tourist visa. His presence led to protests by Austrian federal and local politicians. The Austrian Ministry of the Interior announced that they had no action against Duke as long as he was not involved in National Socialist activities within the country .

In June 2020, Youtube deleted David Duke's channel due to hate speech .
