Zscherben is a district of the municipality Teutschenthal in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The village is about five kilometers northeast of Teutschenthal. The city center of the independent city of Halle (Saale) is about 7.8 kilometers east of Zscherben.
history
The first written mention of the Slavic settlement, probably Sorbian by name, dates from 981; In 1981 the village therefore celebrated its millennial anniversary . Severe fires occurred between 1702 and 1750, which almost completely devastated Zscherben.
Zscherben, formerly known as "shards", was a Office Giebichenstein in Saalkreis of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . In 1680 the Magdeburg bishopric came under Brandenburg-Prussian rule as the Duchy of Magdeburg .
With the Peace of Tilsit in 1807, Zscherben was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. The place belonged to the canton of Halle . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place was attached to the administrative district of Merseburg in the Prussian province of Saxony and assigned to the Saalkreis.
At the end of April 1945 the place was taken by the Americans and given to the Soviet zone of occupation. On June 1, 1945, before the Red Army marched in , the mayor of the time Grätzner burned the entire village chronicle.
On January 1, 2005, Zscherben was incorporated into Teutschenthal.

Zscherben has a stop on the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden with hourly connections to Halle (Saale) and Lutherstadt Eisleben / Nordhausen .
The federal road 80 runs north of the village , south of Zscherben the newly built section of the state road 164, via which there is a connection to the A 143 .
