(2724) Orlov ( 1978 RZ 5 ; 1948 TF 1 ; 1956 EF ; 1972 LB ; 1974 YQ ; 1976 GO ) is an approximately 21 km large asteroid of the outer main belt , which was discovered on September 13, 1978 by the Russian (then: Soviet Union ) astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory (Nautschnyj branch) on the Crimean peninsula ( IAU code 095).
designation
(2724) Orlov was named after Sergei Vladimirovich Orlow (1880-1958), a professor at the Lomonosov University in Moscow and Alexander Jakowlewitsch Orlov (1880-1954), the first president of the main observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine ( Golosseevo Astronomical Observatory ) named. Moon craters were named after both of them .
