(2864) Soderblom ( 1983 AZ ; 1965 CG ; 1965 DE ; 1970 JF ; 1972 TO 9 ; 1974 CO ) is an approximately 10 miles large asteroid of the main central belt that was discovered on August 30, 1981 by the American astronomer Brian A. Skiff was discovered at Lowell Observatory , Anderson Mesa Station ( Anderson Mesa ) near Flagstaff , Arizona ( IAU code 688).

(2864) Soderblom was named after the astrogeologist Lawrence A. Soderblom who worked for the United States Geological Survey . His contributions to planetary research included studying the geological history of rocky and icy planets and satellites, as well as spacecraft image processing.
