Oldest house (Rhineland-Palatinate)
Oldest house

The oldest house in the Rhineland-Palatinate municipality Dirmstein is a historic stone house with half-timbered share , which was built in the 16th century. It is officially called the “Oldest House” and is a listed building .

Geographical location

The building is located in the center traufständig at Metzgergasse . Its gable side faces Salzgasse and Schlossplatz , and the Sturmfedersche Schloss is diagonally opposite . Within a radius of 150 m there are other historical buildings, e.g. B. Franz Rothermel's house , the Kornhof , the baroque Laurentiuskirche , the old town hall and the bakery .

building

The oldest house with its rectangular floor plan and the longer axis in west-east direction consists of two full storeys. The attic, which is located under the hipped roof , is illuminated by dormer windows, three of which look north and south, and two look west and east. The brick basement, like the non-half-timbered part of the upper floor, is plastered in white. The house entrance is on the eastern gable side, which is adjacent to the farm yard. This can be reached through a large arched gate . The archway interrupts the wall that connects to the east with the main facade facing north. The upper floor of the main facade is made of dark half-timbering , the infills are plastered in white. All of the rectangular windows in the house have no shutters.

Building history

The oldest house was built in the 16th century by an apparently wealthy citizen; it bears the engraved date 1596. With only five or six other buildings, it survived the burning down of the place by French troops in the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689 ; it is the only one that survived to this day. It was nicely restored around the turn of the millennium in coordination with the monument protection authority.
