history

Replica of the Madonna at the St. Michael Pharmacy

In the front guest room, a listed baroque Madonna figure was installed on a stone plinth at a height of about 1.50 m in a kind of Herrgottswinkel . The statuette, carved out of sandstone , was made in the 18th century and shows the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus in her arms. Originally, the figure did not belong to Café Kempf, but was placed in a shell niche at the corner of the St. Michael pharmacy opposite; there is now a replica carved from wood. The original, which comes from the construction phase of the nearby Laurentiuskirche (1742–46), was acquired after the Second World War , probably in the 1960s, by Luitpold Kempf, the then owner of the café, and integrated into the dining room.
