The St. Michael Pharmacy in the Rhineland-Palatinate municipality of Dirmstein is a listed half-timbered building that was built in the early 18th century.

Geographical location

The pharmacy is in Dirmsteiner Oberdorf, today's center, at 103  m above sea level. NHN opposite the Laurentiuskirche , where Marktstrasse (postal address, but no entrance), Mitteltor and Affenstein meet. There are other historical properties in the vicinity, e.g. B. Spitalhof , Old Town Hall , Marktstrasse 1 .

The corner house consists of two full storeys, the attic under the hipped roof is not used. The pharmacy is operated on the ground floor, the upper floor is used for residential purposes.

The cube-shaped building extends in a west-east direction with the main facade and the entrance to the south, while various functional buildings are in front on the rear, which form the south-western end of the palace square . The gable wall facing west towards Marktstrasse continues in the high enclosure wall of the Schlossplatz, which is broken through by the Michelstor of Sturmfeder Castle .

The brick basement is plastered with yellowish plaster, the upper floor consists of dark brown timber framing with beige infill . Visible sandstone edges, e.g. B. on the window reveals are painted gray. The high rectangular windows have green wooden folding shutters on the upper floor.

A shell niche in the southwest corner hides a figure of Mary. It is a replica of the sandstone original , carved from wood , which is a listed building and is installed in the neighboring Hotel Café Kempf.

Building history

The previous building was built in 1535 at the transition from the late Middle Ages to the modern era , its appearance is not known. It contained the so-called knight's hall , in which the local nobility , who formed an inheritance , held their meetings. This building was destroyed in 1689 when French troops burned the whole of Dirmstein in the Palatinate War of Succession .

The new house was built at the beginning of the 18th century. Its intended use at the time is not known. From 1908 until the end of the Second World War , it served as a restaurant ; The hosts were Johannes Magin and Wilhelm Rübsaamen . The pharmacy has been operating on the ground floor since the 1950s.
