Quadtsches Castle

The Quad Paget's Castle in the Rhineland-Palatinate municipality Dirmstein is a castle-like mansion , which on the grounds of a former provost of the Augustinian order was established and at the latest from 1738 owned by the lower local nobility counted bailiff family of Quadt stood. In the listed property, an estate is operated today , which deals with the cultivation of grain, seed grain, sugar beet, early potatoes and delicatessen potatoes.

Geographical location

The Quadtsche Schloss is located in the north of the town center with the southern front facing the Obertor street . To the west, north and east - there beyond the farm yard - it is surrounded by vineyards that belong to the small local individual location Jesuitenhofgarten . The entrance, farm yard and part of the outbuildings are shared by Quadtsche Schloss with the Jesuitenhof winery to the southeast .

building

The main building, which extends in a west-east direction along the street, has its portal entrance on the northern long side, which faces the inner courtyard. Under the voluminous two-storey rectangular building with a mansard roof lies a cellar with a barrel vault . The rustic, simple style is emphasized by rusticated corner pilasters , a floor flange and arched windows. The portal is framed by Doric pilasters and crowned by a split segment arch gable. The equivalent to this is the stone double arcade in the stairwell.

During the renovation in 2005, the facade was given the strong red paintwork that the property had in the late Baroque period . The base and the sandstone edges on the corners of the house, window and door reveals are set off in light gray.

Building history

The Augustinian provost, founded in 1367 at the site of today's castle , was badly damaged on June 4, 1525 during the Peasants' War by insurgents who were under the command of Dirmstein's vassal Erasmus von der Hauben and never recovered in the period that followed.

Under the later owners Quadt, the former monastery was converted into a manor house with surrounding farm buildings in the first half of the 18th century. When the French Revolution attacked the Palatinate towards the end of the 18th century , the Quadtsche Castle was also expropriated and later auctioned . In 1803 the local Janson family came into possession of the castle; she made major changes, especially to the functional buildings. Today the property belongs to the Schneider family.
