Ćmielów ( ) is a city in Poland in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship .
geography
Geographical location
The city is located on the Sandomierz plateau on the Kamienna River . The city center of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski is about ten kilometers to the west.
Neighboring communities
The urban and rural municipality of Ćmielów is surrounded by seven municipalities. Starting in the north, they are clockwise: Bałtów , Tarłów , Ożarów , Wojciechowice , Opatów , Sadowie and Bodzechów .
history
The first documented evidence of a settlement on the site of today's Ćmielów comes from the 14th century. The town charter was awarded today Ćmielów on 19th May 1505 by Aleksander the Jagiellonian awarded. Other sources cite the year 1509 as the date when the city was granted town charter. The town charter was confirmed after 1512 under Magdeburg law . During the Third Partition of Poland , Ćmielów became part of Austria . With the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw in 1809, the city became part of the same and from 1815 part of Congress Poland . Porcelain production developed in the city in the 19th century . In 1870 Ćmielów lost its town charter. In 1915 the place was connected to the rail network and after the end of the First World War the city became part of the re-formed Poland. During the Second World War the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht until the Red Army marched in in January 1945 . After the war the place became part of the People's Republic of Poland . In 1954 the place received a status as a settlement, before it was again given city rights in 1962.

Buildings
- The ruins of the 14th century castle
- The Church of Saint Mary. It was built at the beginning of the 14th century. The first documented mention comes from the year 1347, Jan Wiśniewski dated the church to the year 1313 in 1907. In the 16th century the church was destroyed by followers of Arianism and it was destroyed in the following years, for example by the fighting in the Second Nordic War . The church was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century.

Voivodeship Road 755 ( droga wojewódzka 755 ) runs through Ćmielów . It opens about ten kilometers west in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski in the European route 371 at the same time state road 9 ( DK 9 ). In an easterly direction, the 755 runs through Ożarów, crosses the state road 79 and joins the province road 854 after about 40 kilometers east of Zawichost .
The nearest international airport is Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, about 100 kilometers southeast of the city.
The Ćmielów service station is on the Łódź – Dębica railway line .
