history

On February 1, 1991, an accreditation department was set up in the Czech Office for Standardization and Measurement. On December 21, 1992, a certificate of incorporation was issued for a non-governmental entity that is to take over the accreditation, which began work on January 1, 1993. In 1996 the CAI was accepted into the ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation). According to Law 22/1997, the CAI is no longer a state administrative authority since September 1st, 1997. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has authorized the CAI to carry out accreditations. In 2000 the Convention on the Mutual Recognition of Accreditation Results (ILAC MRA) was signed.

As part of the European Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008 (Article 4 Paragraph 1), all EU member states had to designate a single national accreditation body from January 1, 2010. For the Czech Republic this is the CAI.
