(2772) Dugan ( 1979 XE ; 1966 BV ; 1968 TM ; 1973 CG ; A906 BC ) is an asteroid approximately ten kilometers in size of the main inner belt that was discovered on December 14, 1979 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Lowell Observatory , Anderson Mesa Station ( Anderson Mesa ) near Flagstaff , Arizona ( IAU code 688) was discovered.
designation
(2772) Dugan was named after the American astronomer Raymond Smith Dugan (1878–1940). In 1927 he wrote an influential textbook with the American Henry Norris Russell and John Quincy Stewart called Astronomy: A Revision of Young's Manual of Astronomy . From 1902 to 1904 he worked at the State Observatory in Heidelberg-Königstuhl (IAU code 024), where he discovered 18 asteroids. The moon crater Dugan is named after him.
