The 2. HNL 2017/18 was the 27th season of the second Croatian football league . The season started on August 18, 2017 and ended on May 20, 2018.

The twelve teams competed against each other in three rounds, so that 33 match days had to be completed. The teams that finished in the first six places after 22 games had an additional six home games, the teams in the lower six places had five home games.

The first in the table rose directly, the second played against the penultimate of the 1st HNL in the relegation. The bottom of the table was relegated directly to the 3rd HNL , the penultimate should be relegated against the second in the 3rd HNL. Since the RNK Split did not receive a license for the 2nd HNL, these matches were not held.

    The ninth place in the 1st HNL played two play-off games against the runner-up in the 2nd HNL on May 30 and June 2, 2018 after the regular season.

    Relegation

    The relegation games between the second of the 3rd HNL and the ninth of the 2nd HNL should take place on May 30th and June 2nd, 2018. RNK Split did not get a license for the 2nd HNL. This left Hrvatski dragovoljac in the league.
