The 2. HNL 2001/02 was the eleventh season of the second highest Croatian football league .

mode

The league was divided into two regional groups of 16 teams each. In Group North, six teams from the 3rd HNL North and East were added to the four clubs from the previous season. In Group South, two teams from the 3rd HNL West and South and three from the 3rd HNL Center were added to the nine clubs from the previous season.

The two winners played against the 11th and 12th of the 1st HNL for promotion. The last six clubs were relegated directly to the 3rd HNL , while the two tenth-placed teams played relegation games against the two playoff winners of the 3rd HNL.
