Eastern Mediterranean
- King Lysimachus has the city of Ephesus rebuilt.
- Demetrios I. Poliorketes marches against Sparta , which protects itself with a city wall.
- Lachares , tyrant of Athens, seizes the golden statue of Athena and turns it into money to pay his mercenaries.
Western Mediterranean
- Third Samnite War : After the Samnite army had evaded towards Etruria , the Romans under Volumnius conquered the Samnite cities of Murgantia, Romulea and Ferentinum one after the other. Meanwhile the Samnite Gellius Egnatius organized a united army of Samnites , Gauls , Etruscans and Umbrians . Volumnius then leads his army from Samnium to Etruria in order to unite it with Claudius' troops and together they defeat the opposing army. Shortly afterwards, the Romans succeeded in another victory over the Samnites, who had invaded Campania on Volturnus .
- Rome founds the Latin colonies of Sinuessa and Minturnae in the Aurunker area .
