Western Mediterranean
- In the Third Samnite War, the Romans under Lucius Cornelius Scipio Barbatus suffer a defeat against the Samnites and their allies in the Battle of Camerinum (today: Camerino ) .
- Battle of Sentinum (near today's Sassoferrato): The Romans achieve a decisive victory against the Samnitem and their allies, whereupon the Celts , Etruscans and Umbrians make peace with the Romans. Publius Decius Mus sacrifices himself in battle.
Eastern Mediterranean
- Demetrios I Poliorketes sends a fleet against Athens , which however is shipwrecked in a storm off Attica. Nevertheless, he manages to impose a sea blockade on Athens.
- Ptolemy I of Egypt begins the reconquest of Cyprus . An attempt to assist the Athenians with a fleet of 150 ships was unsuccessful.
- Seleucus I wins Cilicia .
- Lysimachos wins the Greek cities of Asia Minor .
