Western Mediterranean
- The Third Samnite War breaks out and lasts until 290 BC. Chr. The occasion is the attempt of the Samnites , the Lucanians against Rome to win. In an alliance with the Umbrians , Sabines , Celts and Etruscans , the Samnites try to regain their position of power that was lost in the Second Samnite War.
- Establishment of a Latin colony in Carsioli (today: Carsoli) in the Aequer area .
- The Romans succeeded in conquering the Samnite capital Bovianum in the first year of the war . The Samnites then move to the north.
- Victory of the Romans under their consul Lucius Cornelius Scipio Barbatus over the Etruscans at Volaterrae .
Eastern Mediterranean
- Seleukos I marries Stratonike , the daughter of Demetrios I Poliorketes . This wins control over Cilicia . A little later there is a dispute between Demetrios and Seleukos over the possession of Tire and Sidon .
- Demetrios sends Pyrrhus I hostage to the court of Ptolemy I.
- Athens makes peace with Cassander .
