301 - Shit on an Empire (Alternative title: 301 - Die Deppen der Antike ; Original title The Legend of Awesomest Maximus ) is an American sandal film parody by Jeff Kanew from 2011 . Will Sasso and Kristanna Loken play the leading roles .

action

Troy and Greece are at war. Orlando, the gay prince of Troy, is sent to Greece to make peace. Hottizia, his ambitious sister, is striving for the throne and sees the peace mission as an opportunity. She urges her husband, Deppus Maximus, who, according to a prophecy, is said to be the greatest strategist of his time, but who is in fact quite untalented, to follow the prince and save the mission, as she suspects that her brother would fail. In doing so, she hopes to gain the benevolence of her aged father Senilus.

Indeed, the peace mission fails because Orlando persuades the wife of the Greek king Erotikos, Helena, to follow him to Troy. The irascible erotic is angry and starts a campaign against Troy. In his wake is Testiklos, the greatest hero. The Trojans oppose the Greeks - following an oracle's prophecy - with just 300 men. Through the heroic efforts of Qantas and his men, they succeed in defeating the Greeks. Deppus does poorly in the battle and is "accidentally" pushed over a cliff by his own followers. Everyone thinks he died doing it.

In reality, however, he manages to swim to the African coast. There he is captured by slave traders and trained as a gladiator. There he learned to fight properly and was promptly victorious in the arena. In doing so, however, he kills Platroclus and thus incurs the wrath of Testiklos. However, Deppus manages to escape.

Meanwhile, the Greeks fail to take Troy. Gnomicus, who had previously been cast out by the Trojans because of his size and skin color, proposed a ruse to King Erotikus. The Greeks are supposed to hide in a huge wooden penis and so get into the city. The trick succeeds and the Greeks are about to conquer Troy. To avoid further bloodshed, Deppus Erotikos suggests that the war be decided in a single fight. He agrees and lets Testiklos fight. He is defeated by Deppus, however, as he recognized Testiklos' weak point. After Erotikos breaks his promise and wants to continue the war, Orlando confesses his love for him. He just started the whole war to get Erotikos' attention. Erotikos is overwhelmed because he also loves Orlando and puts an end to the war. Hottizia, too, is finally satisfied with Deppus, as he can boast success for the first time.

In the end it turns out that Deppus told the story to two women in a bar. So it remains to be seen whether the whole thing actually happened or was just an invention of Deppus.

Allusions

  • The name of the Prince of Troy is Orlando, a reference to Orlando Bloom , who portrays Paris in the movie Troy .
  • Testiclos takes his name because his mother held him by his testicles when he was made invulnerable by the waters of a sacred river. This refers to the legend of Achilles who had his only vulnerable spot on his heel for the same reason.
  • The film contains the events of Achilles , Hector and Patroclus . In contrast to the original, Achille (Testiklos) is angry not because Hector (Deppus) killed Patroklos (Platroklos), but because he mixed up the two. This offends Testiklos in his vanity.
  • The Trojan horse here is a huge wooden penis.

301 - Fuck an Empire comes from the House of National Lampoon and parodies the films 300 , Troy , Gladiator and Braveheart . The filming took place in Antelope Island and on the Great Salt Lake in Salt Lake City , Utah . The broadcasters Comedy Central have the distribution rights in the USA and Intergroove Media for the German market . The movie parody was released in the United States on August 5, 2011. The film has been available for purchase in Germany since March 7, 2014.

reception

The reviews are different, so Filmdienst describes the parody as "confused clothes in the guise of the '300' films". DVD-Forum.at describes the film as "cheeky, over-the-top fun", which is funnier than The Turkey from Panem - The Starving Games .
