Politics and world events
Visigoth Empire / Western Roman Empire
- Flavius Constantius is the first to hold the Roman consulate and is awarded the honorary title of patricius .
- January: To the astonishment of Goths and Romans alike, the Visigoth leader Athaulf marries the sister of Honorius , Galla Placidia , who was carried hostage after the sacking of Rome in 410 , in Narbonne according to Roman custom. With this marriage, the Gothic king is said to have indicated that he did not want to make the Roman Empire into a Gothic one, but rather wanted to renew it with the help of his Goths. Orosius reports that his wife made him realize this. That same year, a child is shown in the marriage, after his maternal grandfather, the Roman Emperor I. Theodosius is named. However, it dies before the end of the year.
- Flavus Constantius , who himself strives for power and the hand of Galla Placidia, begins the fight against Athaulf again. From Arles he organized a blockade of the southern Gaulish ports. Athaulf then used Priscus Attalus again as counter-emperor against Honorius in Bordeaux .
