  • February 27 : The Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius II puts teaching activities in Constantinople by law ( CTh 14,9,3) under state supervision and thus establishes the high school, a forerunner of the university . In the same year he also generously sponsored the library of Constantinople, so that it should ultimately have comprised 120,000 works.
