history

8kids was founded in 2013 by the two musicians Hans Koch and Jonas Jakob, who had both been active in the local music scene in Darmstadt for a long time . Later, Emma McLellan, a drummer, joined the musicians.

In March 2016 the band signed a contract with the music publisher Melodie der Welt and the management agency Ever Ever Management. A month earlier, 8kids signed a record deal with the Austrian record company Napalm Records . At the beginning of April everything dissolves on the first music video was presented on the homepage of the music magazine Visions ; End of the same month appeared with demons the group debut EP. In August of the same year the band played at Olgas Rock in Oberhausen .

The group toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic in April 2017 as the opening act for To the Rats and Wolves . At the end of May, shortly after the release of the debut album Denen Who We Were , which was created in collaboration with producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner , a short tour of Germany as headliner with Anorak followed . This is followed by a small tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland between September 29 and October 7, 2017 as the opening act for Van Holzen .

Between January 17 and February 3, 2018, 8kids completed another concert tour in Germany. The band spent the summer at music festivals such as With Full Force , Highfield Festival , Green Juice Festival and Hurricane Festival . In March and April 2019 the band toured with Swiss and Die Andern through Germany and Austria. In March, the first new single, Wir haben Kids, was released with Swiss as a guest musician. At the end of May, Kraft released the second single of the second studio album, Blūten , released on August 23, 2019 . This was followed by the two-week “We remain kids” tour through Germany with guest appearances by Swiss and Kind Kaputt . The "Forever Kids" tour originally planned for spring 2020 was postponed to the following year, with the exception of a concert in Darmstadt. The release of a live recording from Leipzig in the form of a live EP has been announced for the summer. This is called Live in Leipzig 2019 , contains five titles and will be released on August 14, 2020 via Napalm Records.

style

The lyrics of the three-piece band were all written in English in the initial phase . With the arrival of drummer Emma McLellan, the songs were written in German . On the debut EP Demons , the music is described as dynamic. The songs contain emotional components and pop influences, which are occasionally crossed by short screamo passages. The sound of the group oscillates between Caliban and various emo artists.

The group's texts are described as profound. So is the song Time from the debut album To those we were of sorrow . The background to the lyrics is the failed relationship of guitarist Hans Koch, which he was unable to process for a long time. The musicians worked on the piece for a total of two years.
