Siewisch , Źiwize in Lower Sorbian , is a district of the city of Drebkau in the Spree-Neisse district in Brandenburg . Until it was incorporated on December 31, 2001, Siewisch was an independent municipality. The place is part of the official settlement area of the Sorbs / Wends .

Siewisch is located in Niederlausitz . Neighboring places are the municipality of Koschendorf in the north, Leuthen in the northeast, Laubst in the southeast, the city of Drebkau in the south, Radensdorf in the southwest, Casel in the west and Illmersdorf in the northwest.

The district roads 7126 and 7127 run through Siewisch. Just under two kilometers south of the town, state road 52 runs from Drebkau to Calau , east of Siewisch, federal road 169 runs from Senftenberg to Cottbus .

history

Siewisch was first mentioned in a document in 1350 under the name Sywiss . In 1527 the place was called Dschiwis . There are various possible interpretations of the place name. This comes from the Sorbian and is either due to the word źiwy for wild or goes back to the personal name Diwisch.

The Siewisch manor , which was owned by the von Köckritz family , burned down in 1945. A manor and a park belonged to the castle .

Until the 19th century Siewisch was a predominantly Sorbian-speaking village. For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 225 in the 1880s, of which 150 were Sorbs (67%) and 75 were Germans. After that, the proportion of Sorbian-speaking residents fell sharply. In 1956, Ernst Tschernik had a Sorbian-speaking population of only 1.2%.

In April 1945, during the Second World War , Siewisch was shot at by Russian low-flying planes.

After the Congress of Vienna , the entire Lower Lusatia, and thus also the town of Siewisch, came to the Kingdom of Prussia . Until 1952 Siewisch was in the Calau district (from 1950 Senftenberg district). On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Koschendorf was incorporated into Siewisch. On July 25, 1952 Siewisch was assigned to the newly formed Cottbus-Land district in the Cottbus district and was in the Cottbus district in Brandenburg after the reunification . On July 16, 1992 Siewisch formed together with seven other municipalities and the city of Drebkau the Drebkau / Niederlausitz office . After the district reform in Brandenburg on December 6, 1993 Siewisch came to the newly formed district of Spree-Neisse . On December 31, 2001 Siewisch was incorporated into Drebkau.
