location
Papproth is in Lower Lusatia . The town of Drebkau is about two kilometers northwest and the town of Cottbus about ten kilometers north of the village. Surrounding villages are Jehserig in the north, Rehnsdorf in the northeast and Steinitz in the west. The Welzow-Süd open-cast lignite mine borders the site to the south , the former neighboring towns of Straussdorf in the east, Radeweise in the south-east, Wolkenberg in the south and Gribona in the south-west were excavated by the open-cast mine, and Göhrigk , which was formerly located to the north-west, was cleared and demolished after a break in the daylight .
history
Papproth was first mentioned in 1527 as "Paperit". The place name, which comes from Sorbian, describes a location where ferns grow.
Until the 19th century, Papproth was a largely Sorbian-speaking village. For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a total population of 53 in the 1880s, of which 51 were Sorbs and only two were Germans, which corresponds to a Sorbian-speaking proportion of 96%. For various reasons, the use of the Sorbian language fell sharply in the following years.
After the Congress of Vienna , the entire Lower Lusatia came to the Kingdom of Prussia . When the new district was formed in 1816, Papproth came to the Calau district . On January 1, 1939, Papproth lost its independence as a community and was incorporated into Jehserig . On July 25, 1952, the place was assigned to the newly formed Spremberg district in the Cottbus district . After the reunification , Papproth was initially in the Cottbus district and after the district reform in December 1993 it was assigned to the Spree-Neisse district . On December 31, 2001, Jehserig was incorporated into the town of Drebkau together with its parts of the community and the previously independent communities of Casel , Domsdorf , Greifenhain , Laubst , Leuthen , Schorbus and Siewisch .
