The place Kausche was first mentioned in 1527 under the name Klausche , the meaning of the names is unclear. Archaeological finds indicate the first settlement in the 13th century . With the opening of the “Mariannensglück” lignite mine in 1894, a briquette factory was built in 1895, which was not closed until 1992. Kausche belonged to the Calau district until 1952 and after a regional reform it belonged to the Spremberg district .

At the end of the Second World War , larger German troop units were established in and around the town of Kausche, including the 10th SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg" , the Führer-Accompanying Division and the 344th Infantry Division, but also Volkssturm and civilians in the Kessel von Thimble enclosed by Soviet troops. When the kettle erupted on April 21, 1945, thousands of soldiers and civilians lost their lives.

In December 1991 LAUBAG decided to dredge the town of Kausche. In December 1993 a corresponding relocation contract was signed. In the mid-1990s, the last people living in Kausche were resettled, and in 1996 all of the town's buildings were demolished. Around 2000 the original location had to give way to the Welzow-Süd opencast mine . Kausche was the first place in Lower Lusatia that was completely relocated to another location, here Neu Kausche. The official number of resettlers is given as 355.

The old municipality of Kausche was reclassified to Drebkau on September 29, 1996. At the new location of the town, which is about six kilometers north of the old town on an area of about twelve hectares , 25 apartment buildings with 149 apartments and 33 private homes were built.

In the center of today's district of Drebkau are the community center and a church. Several clubs are still active in Drebkau that have kept the name, such as the Drebkau / Kausche volunteer fire brigade and the SG Kausche (football club).
