history

BR midday magazine (1989 to 2017)

In order to be able to inform viewers about developments during the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification in 1989/1990 not only in the morning and in the evening, the midday magazine was launched by ARD and ZDF in 1989. Bayerischer Rundfunk was responsible for the design of the broadcast for ARD from 1989 to 2017. Hannelore Fischer moderated the magazine from the beginning ; most recently Stefan Scheider (since 1996) and Petra Schwarzenberg (since 2012) were her representatives. The editorial team was most recently headed by Klemens Hübner. Due to the changes in the collection of the broadcasting fee in 2013, Bayerischer Rundfunk announced that it was no longer financially able to continue producing the midday magazine, so that production of the broadcast in Munich was discontinued at the end of 2017. The last broadcast was hosted by Stefan Scheider on December 29, 2017.

Most recently, the BR lunch magazine had the following structure: At the beginning of the broadcast, the topics of the day were given in an overview and then presented in more detail. In the middle of the program there was also an overview of the news from the NDR studio of the Tagesschau in Hamburg . This was followed by a live report from the Frankfurt Stock Exchange , a sports block and, at the end, a detailed weather forecast from the Hessischer Rundfunk from Frankfurt am Main . The program thus differed significantly from its counterpart on ZDF, which at the time incorporated more tabloid topics and usually integrated a talk guest into the program.

Midday magazine of the rbb (since 2018)

From 2018, following the withdrawal of the BR, Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg will be responsible for the broadcast and has been broadcasting from the capital Berlin since January 2, 2018 . Due to a cooperation with the ZDF, the rbb produces the show in the ZDF capital studio , as it does not have suitable premises itself. Jessy Wellmer and Sascha Hingst take on the double moderation. The editorial team is headed by Bettina Schön, who was already deputy editor-in-chief in Munich.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic , the rbb has been sending its program temporarily from the evening show studio at the rbb broadcasting center on Theodor-Heuss-Platz in Berlin since March 2020 in order to be able to comply with the distance rules recommended by the Robert Koch Institute .
