Adalberto Almeida y Merino (born June 5, 1916 in Bachín near Chihuahua , State of Chihuahua , Mexico , † June 21, 2008 in Chihuahua) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Chihuahua .

Life

Adalberto Almeida y Merino studied at the seminaries of Chihuahua, Durango, San Luis Potosi and Veracruz, and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome philosophy , Catholic theology and canon law . He was ordained a priest on April 24, 1943 in the Church of Il Gesù in Rome by the later Cardinal Vicar Luigi Traglia . From 1946 he was a regens of the seminary in Chihuahua. He was appointed chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

On May 28, 1956 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed Bishop of Tulancingo in the Mexican state of Hidalgo . The Archbishop of Chihuahua , Antonio Guízar y Valencia , ordained him episcopal on August 15th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Toluca , Arturo Vélez Martínez , and Auxiliary Bishop José Villalón Mercado from the Archdiocese of Mexico .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on April 14, 1962 Bishop of Zacatecas . As a council father, he took part in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

On August 24, 1969, he was appointed Archbishop of Chihuahua by Pope Paul VI. The inauguration took place on September 8th of the same year.

On June 24, 1991 , John Paul II granted his age-related resignation .
