Agustín Mario Cejas (born March 22, 1945 in Buenos Aires ; † August 14, 2015 there ) was an Argentine football player. In addition to the Racing Club , with which he won the Argentine championship, the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup , Cejas also played for FC Santos , Gremio Porto Alegre and River Plate, among others .

Career

Club career

Agustín Cejas was born on March 22, 1945 in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . From 1959 to 1962 he was initially a member of the youth of the Racing Club . Last year the goalkeeper was accepted into the professional team of the club from the industrial capital suburb of Avellaneda . Agustín Cejas quickly became the goalkeeper of the traditional club, where he played together with players such as Roberto Perfumo , Alfio Basile and Humberto Maschio . Cejas won his first title with the Racing Club in the Primera División in 1966 . In the same year Cejas was awarded the Bola de Ouro and thus honored as the best player in the Brazilian championship. For the 1977 season, the now 32-year-old keeper returned to his hometown club in Avellaneda and from then on played for the Racing Club for another three years, although these were not nearly as successful as the first phase of Ceja's work for the club. There was no further title win. However, Agustín Cejas screwed up the number of his assignments for the Racing Club to 313 in the league. In total, he even has 334 appearances in competitive games, making him the record holder in this category to this day. Agustín Cejas's last post as a football player was in 1981 in the River Plate jersey before retiring at the age of 36. From 2004 to 2005, Cejas was also the goalkeeping coach of the Saudi Arabian national soccer team under head coach Gabriel Calderón . At the end of his life, Cejas suffered from Alzheimer's disease , from the consequences of which he died on August 14, 2015 at the age of 70 in his hometown of Buenos Aires.

National team

Between 1964 and 1969, Agustín Cejas made eleven international matches for the Argentine national football team . However , he was not granted participation in a soccer world championship .
