Aisin Seiki KK ( Japanese ア イ シ ン 精 機 株式会社 , Aishin Seiki Kabushiki-kaisha , English Aisin Seiki Co. Ltd. ) is a Japanese automotive supplier company that was founded in 1949 and is 30% owned by the Toyota Group. The company specializes in the development and production of components for the automotive industry and supplies, among other things, transmissions and navigation devices to various automobile manufacturers.
Group of companies
The Aisin Group is a tier-one supplier of automotive components with global sales of US $ 18.05 billion in 2006. Its headquarters are in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture , Japan . Kariya controls 146 subsidiaries worldwide. Aisin Seiki is traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the identification number 7259.
Several brand names are known to specialized subsidiaries in certain application areas:
- Aisin AW (Aisin-Warner) - automatic transmissions and navigation systems
- Aisin AI - manual transmission
- Advics, Hosei - brakes
- IMRA - fiber laser
Aisin also plays an essential role in the spare parts and retrofit market for the sale of water pumps and hydraulic parts (e.g. brakes, clutches ).
Another business area is sewing machines.
Aisin is also active in the field of building technology. Mid-1980s began Aisin due to the energy shortage in Japan with the operation of heat pumps by gasoline engines (gas-engine-driven compression heat pumps; GWP) in order to cool buildings efficiently or to heat. Aisin relies on gasoline engines from the Toyota Group, which can be operated with conventional natural gas or liquid gas . A major advantage of the Aisin gas heat pump over the competition is its efficiency and extremely long service intervals. A major advantage of the technology compared to other (gas) heat pumps is that these systems can also generate hot water in cooling mode at the same time and without additional energy consumption. A building is cooled and hot water is produced in one operation with just one device - without additional energy consumption. An offshoot of the developments in GWP is a gas block-type thermal power station ( BHKW ), which can generate electricity and heat for heating / cooling at the same time from natural gas.
In Europe, the GWP and the CHP are sold exclusively by the Italian Tecnocasa in Loreto (near Ancona ). There are partners in most European countries.
Aisin AW
Aisin AW Co. Ltd. was founded on May 15, 1969. The headquarters are in Anjo , Japan near Nagoya and are led by Haruo Mori (Chairman), Kanji Asai (Director) and Takao Taniguchi (President). Production began on the basis of BorgWarner designs, but developed quickly. The transmission of the Toyota Prius hybrid car comes from Aisin AW, as does the first talking navigation system .

Aisin AI
As an independent subsidiary of Aisin Seiki, Aisin AI is mainly responsible for manual transmissions. Aisin AI was spun off in July 1991 and its headquarters moved to Nishio .

Aisin USA
Aisin began building a factory in the United States in 1986, which began production in 1989. This factory in Seymour (Indiana) has meanwhile been enlarged and supplies Honda , Geo , General Motors , Mitsubishi Motors , Nissan and Toyota . There is a subsidiary in Marion, Illinois .
On October 5, 2005, Aisin USA opened a 3.55 km² (878 acre) test site near Fowlerville, Michigan . It's officially called FT Techno of America (FTTA), but it's actually known as the Fowlerville Proving Ground . With 554 employees and an investment of $ 102.7 million, the start-up FTTA is Aisin's fifth company in Michigan.
The new test site is Aisin's third worldwide and first in North America. It serves as a research and development location where different road surfaces in different lengths and widths are available in order to be able to develop and test different Aisin products and applications such as transmissions, brakes, drive units, car chassis, floor assemblies and components.
