Alar del Rey is a place and a Spanish municipality ( municipio ) 35 km north of the Camino de Santiago in the province of Palencia in the autonomous community of Castile and León . It is located on the banks of the Río Burejo shortly before its confluence with the Río Pisuerga and houses the remains of a Roman fortification.

In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes the three districts of Becerril del Carpio (with Barrio de Santa María , Barrio de San Pedro , La Puebla de San Vicente and Villarrodrigo ), Nogales de Pisuerga and San Quirce del Río Pisuerga .

history

Alar del Rey's origins go back to the construction of the Canal de Castilla . The place was founded in 1657 and is located at the northern end of this building.

The railroad reached the place in 1857.

During the Spanish Civil War there was a field airfield on the territory of the municipality , which was used by units of the German Condor Legion , such as parts of Jagdgruppe 88 , especially during the war in the north .
