On February 25, 1875 Albert of Saxony was born in Dresden as the youngest child and fourth son of Prince Georg , Duke of Saxony (from 1902 King of Saxony), and Maria Anna , born Infanta of Portugal (1843-1884), the eldest daughter of the reigning Queen of Portugal, Maria da Gloria . His older siblings were the early deceased Princesses Marie Johanna (1860–1861) and Elisabeth Albertine (1862–1863), Princess Mathilde (1863–1933), King Friedrich August (1865–1932), Princess Maria Josepha (1867–1944) , as well as the princes Johann Georg (1869–1938) and Maximilian (1870–1951).

He received military training and at the time of his death was Rittmeister and Chief of the 4th Squadron of the 1st Uhlan Regiment .

At the age of only 25 he died in a traffic accident caused by the then 21-year-old, later Duke of Viseu, Miguel de Braganza (1878-1923), son of Michael von Braganza . At the time, he also served in the Saxon army and collided with his Phaeton in Albert's carriage, causing it to overturn. Albert died of his injuries a few hours later. Miguel was accused of deliberately causing the accident. This could not be proven, so that there was no trial, but he had to quit his service and leave the country. Albert was not married and died with no offspring.
