Alexander Friedrich Adolf von Knobelsdorff (born December 4, 1788 in Spandau , † October 15, 1848 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Alexander came from the first noble family von Knobelsdorff . His parents were Major General Kurd Gottlob von Knobelsdorff (1735-1807) and his second wife Wilhelmine Friederike Sophie, born von Kropff (* August 1, 1755, † May 19, 1835).

Military career

Knobelsdorff visited the cadet house in Berlin from May 1, 1797 , but returned to his father on December 31, 1797 for unknown reasons. Some time later on March 23, 1800 he was again a cadet and on March 28, 1805, with a patent from January 8, 1805, he was ensign in the 1st Battalion of the Guard of the Prussian Army . In the Fourth Coalition War Knobelsdorff took part in the battles near Auerstedt , Nordhausen and Boitzenburg and was captured after the surrender near Prenzlau.

After the Peace of Tilsit he came on November 12, 1808 as a second lieutenant with a patent from October 16, 1805 in the Guard Regiment on foot . On March 24th, 1812 he was attached to the East Prussian Jäger Battalion . In the Prussian campaign in 1812 he fought near Eckau and was taken prisoner near Dahlenkirchen. Knobelsdorff was released after the war and was promoted to staff captain until mid-June 1813 .

During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig and earned the Iron Cross II class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV class near Paris .

On April 8, 1815 he became captain and company commander . On July 8, 1816 he was major and on December 9, 1816 battalion commander. At the same time, Knobelsdorff acted from November 13, 1824 as President of the Examination Commission for the Portepeef Ensigns and director of the 1st Guards Garrison School. On January 18, 1830, he received the Order of St. John and the service cross . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1832, with the command of the Guard Reserve Landwehr Regiment, from which the Guard Fusilier Regiment later emerged. Knobelsdorff was appointed regimental commander on September 24, 1832 and promoted to colonel on March 30, 1834 with a patent from April 13, 1834 . In this capacity he received the Order of St. Anne II on November 26, 1834 . On March 30, 1838, he was entrusted with the leadership of the 2nd Guard Infantry Brigade and on April 11, 1838, the Guard Reserve Infantry Landwehr Regiment aggregated . Furthermore Knobelsdorff received on June 8, 1838 the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class. On March 30, 1839, he was appointed brigade commander and on September 10, 1840 he was promoted to major general . For this he received on January 16, 1842 the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On 17 October 1844 he was first with full salary and on 14 April 1846 2250 Talern board for disposition made. Shortly after his departure, Knobelsdorff was given the character of Lieutenant General on May 7, 1846 . He died on October 15, 1848 in Berlin and was buried on October 19, 1848 in the family cemetery in Potsdam.

Knobelsdorff married Franziska Leopoldine Isabella Lucie von Gäfertsheim on May 1, 1815 in Berlin (* June 22, 1796; † September 6, 1828). The couple had two children:

  • Kurd Alexander Adolf (born January 18, 1818 - † December 25, 1835), lieutenant in the 1st Guard Regiment on foot
  • Wilhelmine Karoline Luise Elisabeth (* November 24, 1823; † September 8, 1900) ⚭ 1849 Rudolf von Knebel-Döberitz († February 11, 1878), major ret. D., Mr. on Friedrichsdorf

After her death, he married his cousin Ulrike Eleonore von Hünerbein on August 23, 1830 (* February 26, 1804, † August 17, 1832), daughter of Friedrich Heinrich Karl von Hünerbein . The daughter Franziska Ulrike (* August 16, 1832 - October 7, 1858) emerged from the marriage and married Julius von Köppern († January 23, 1890) in 1855.

His second wife died after a short marriage and Knobelsdorff married Auguste von Beust on October 2, 1834 (* July 19, 1810, † May 12, 1887). The couple had two children:
