Alexander von Finckh

Alexander Christian von Finckh (born March 14, 1806 , † December 28, 1888 in Oldenburg (Oldb) ) was an Oldenburg government official and from 1853 to 1881 regional president of the Principality of Birkenfeld, which was part of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg .

Life

Alexander von Finckh was born as the son of the Oldenburg civil servant Christian Daniel von Finckh (1765–1813) and his wife Friederike geb. Süllow (1776–1815) was born. He came from the noble family von Finckh and grew up in Ovelgönne and Oldenburg. After the death of his father, who was executed by the French occupiers in 1813, he attended high school in Stade from 1814 to 1823 and then studied law at the universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen . In 1824 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg . In Göttingen he joined the Corps Oldenburgia.

After completing his studies, von Finckh entered the civil service of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg in 1827 and initially worked as an official auditor in Löningen and Rodenkirchen . In 1831 he became secretary to the government of the Principality of Lübeck , an exclave of the Grand Duchy. His official seat was in Eutin . In 1836 he came as Assessor for the government in Birkenfeld , another exclave Oldenburg, and became there 1841 Councilor and Councilor appointed. After the outbreak of the German Revolution of 1848 , he took over the provisional leadership of the government in March 1848 and endeavored to absorb the revolutionary and sometimes separatist movement through a balancing and conciliatory policy. In 1853 he was officially appointed to the post of government president of the Principality of Birkenfeld, which had been vacant since 1848 and which he held until October 1, 1881. As an award, he received the appointment to the Real Secret Council . Most recently he lived in Oldenburg until his death.

family

Finckh was married to Georgine Marie Louise Henriette Eleonore born on October 8, 1833. Völckers (1807–1883), the daughter of the Eutin doctor Friedrich Carl Völckers (1770–1866). Her brother was the later President of the Oldenburg state parliament, Ludwig Friedrich Völckers (1802–1849). The Finckh couple had five sons and five daughters, their son Eduard became major general in the Prussian army .
