Alfons Weißgatterer (born March 23, 1898 in Schwaz ; † January 31, 1951 in Zams , Tyrol ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Alfons Weißgatterer attended high school in Hall and Bregenz; In 1917 and 1918 he did military service. He began studying at the Medical Faculty of the University of Innsbruck in the summer semester of 1918 . There he joined the Catholic student union AV Austria Innsbruck . In the winter semester of 1919/1920 he moved to Vienna and completed a degree at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna in 1926 with a dissertation on investigations into inorganic components of aeroplankton and a degree in agricultural sciences (Dipl.-Ing.) At the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna . In Vienna he became a member of the Catholic student union K.Ö.HV Rugia Wien. Weißgatterer was also an honorary member of the AV Vindelica Innsbruck and the KÖHV Leopoldina Innsbruck . From 1930 to 1938 he was director of the agricultural college in Rotholz.
On December 10, 1938, nine months after the annexation of Austria , Weißgatterer applied to the Reutte branch for membership in the NSDAP , but the district leadership rejected the application. Weißgatterer's biographer Markus Krispel ruled out any political or ideological interest in the NSDAP and suspected that this step would involve “arranging”. In December 1941, Weißgatterer was accepted into the NSDAP and received a membership card with the number 6,298,401. The recording was dated back to May 1, 1938.

From May 23, 1945, Weissgatter provincial governor was deputy of the Austrian state of Tyrol , from October 20, 1945 until his death its governor. After his predecessor Karl Gruber was appointed to the Foreign Ministry, he continued to build up the state administration. His goals as governor included fighting the food shortage in the post-war period, creating living space and mediating between the French occupying power and the population.

Weißgatterer died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack .
