Allenhurst is a city in Liberty County in the US state of Georgia with 695 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Allenhurst is directly adjacent to Hinesville to the north and Walthourville to the southeast . The next major city, Savannah , is about 60 km northeast.

history

Allenhurst was founded in 1910 by sawmill operator BH Allen. A post office was opened the year before.

According to the 2010 census, the 695 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 245 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.84 people per household. There are a total of 294 households.

The single-track railway line from Savannah to Jesup runs through Allenhurst . This route was originally operated by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad . Today it is used by CSX Transportation . The Amtrak trains Silver Meteor and Silver Star and the car train car train traveled (without stopping in Allenhurst) this route. In addition, the railway connection to Fort Stewart , which branches off in Walthourville , runs through the city.

Allenhurst is crossed by US Highway 84 . The nearest airport is Savannah / Hilton Head Airport (around 70 km northeast).
