geography
Allenhurst is directly adjacent to Hinesville to the north and Walthourville to the southeast . The next major city, Savannah , is about 60 km northeast.
history
Allenhurst was founded in 1910 by sawmill operator BH Allen. A post office was opened the year before.

The single-track railway line from Savannah to Jesup runs through Allenhurst . This route was originally operated by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad . Today it is used by CSX Transportation . The Amtrak trains Silver Meteor and Silver Star and the car train car train traveled (without stopping in Allenhurst) this route. In addition, the railway connection to Fort Stewart , which branches off in Walthourville , runs through the city.
Allenhurst is crossed by US Highway 84 . The nearest airport is Savannah / Hilton Head Airport (around 70 km northeast).
