Expansion of the area

history

There was already a settlement here in Roman times . The proven Römerstrasse and the Gutshof von Meßkirch near the "old town" stand in this context. In the opinion of the Bietingen pastor Joseph Anton Eitenbenz, who was the first to examine the estate and tried to interpret field names such as “palace” in Altheim, it can be assumed that the settlement of Altheim is to be seen in connection with the old town. There are also grave finds from pre-Roman times.

The place name "Altheim" (768 Althaim , 791 villa Altheim ) is to be seen as desreptive: the village was founded during the Merovingian era . It was first mentioned in a document in 768 and 785 in connection with donations to the St. Gallen monastery . In 1092 the brothers strength and Adalbert gave of Dürbheim the St. George's Abbey in the Black Forest ownership of the place that this partially exchanged a few weeks later.

In 1239 and 1241 Dietrich von Altheim , a monk in the Salem monastery , and in 1241 Heinrich von Altheim , a knight, are mentioned as presumed local nobility . In the 15th century Altheim was owned by the Lords of Zimmer , and from 1488 on by the Messkirch rulership . Hans Werner von Zimmer exchanged the village with the House of Austria for property on the Höri in 1534 . In the 18th century, the House of Austria gave the village to Count Schenk von Castell . Under their rule, Gutenstein , they exercised land and court rule over Altheim. The state sovereignty was incumbent on the House of Austria, which left the count's rights to the Counts of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .

In 1806 Altheim came to the Kingdom of Württemberg via the Obervogteiamt Gutenstein of Count Schenk von Castell , then in 1810 to the Grand Duchy of Baden . Under Baden administration, the place experienced a checkered history: 1813 District Office Meßkirch , 1824 District Office Pfullendorf , 1828 District Office Stetten am kalten Markt , 1842 again District Office Meßkirch, 1936 District Office , from 1939 District Stockach . This was dissolved during the Baden-Württemberg district reform in 1973 and Altheim was assigned to the Sigmaringen district on January 1, 1973 .

In the course of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg , the previously independent municipality Altheim was incorporated into Leibertingen on January 1, 1975.

Population development

The population of Altheim has increased only marginally in the last 50 years. On June 6, 1961, the town had 236, currently 239 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2010).

religion

The Catholic Altheim was an independent parish in the Middle Ages. For the year 1265 a people priest (plebanus) is called “de Altheim”. In the Thirty Years War , the parish probably went under due to lack of substitution funds. Altheim became a branch of the parish of Bietingen , from 1979 a branch parish of the parish of Thalheim and has been part of the Leibertingen pastoral care unit since 2000. The branch parish today counts 230 Catholic Christians.

Evangelical Christians are parish in Messkirch.
