geography

Geographical location

Environment map

Thalheim is located on the edge of the Middle Alb against the Altmoränenland and is part of the Upper Danube Nature Park . It is an undulating to flat hilly area of the Alb plateau with an average height of 720  m above sea level. NN . The village is located around 4.3 kilometers southeast of the core town of Leibertingen. The Seltenbach rises to the northwest of Thalheim and the Litzelbach to the southwest of Vogelsang . The former flows north of Thalheim through the so-called "Simmental", which swings east of the town in a large arc to the south, to finally meet with the Litzelbach, which flows through the so-called "Leytach valley" south of Vogelsang, then through Thalheim. The narrow valley formed after this fork only ends in the "Teufelsloch" towards Heudorf . The Litzelbach is a left feeder of the Talbach . The center of the settlement of Thalheim is located on an elongated hill. In the west of the district is the "Stierenbol" ( 760  m above sea level ) in the east of the "Hornberg" (also called Warnberg; 706  m above sea level ).

Expansion of the area

The total area of the Thalheim district is 947 hectares (as of December 31, 2010) of which 378 hectares are forest and 503 hectares are usable.

structure

Thalheim includes the village of Thalheim and the Vogelsang homestead . The residents of Thalheim distinguish the lower, middle and upper village.

history

In the northern district, in the sparse beech forest there, there is an elongated tree-covered hill, the so-called "Hennenbühl". The flat - the height of the apex is around 1.50 meters - and around 15 × 7 meters large elevation is probably a Celtic barrow . In Roman times , several Roman roads crossed the district.

Settlement research interprets Thalheim due to the prefix of the place name, the topography and the regional context as a Franconian fortified farming settlement in the Alemannic Scherragau , which was founded around the year 750. A certain documentary mention of Thalheim dates back to 1242. The reason for the mention was a gift / exchange of goods from the Wald monastery to the Reichenau monastery .

Over the years, the local rulership changed: initially with the Counts of Rohrdorf , in the 13th century it came to the Counts of Helfenstein-Sigmaringen , von Montfort and the House of Habsburg , in the 14th century to the House of Württemberg , in the 15th century Century to the Counts of Werdenberg and from 1535 to the Counts of Zollern as Austrian fiefdoms. Thalheim belonged to the rule from the middle of the 13th century and from 1460 to the county of Sigmaringen .

In addition to the respective owners of the county of Sigmaringen, the monasteries of Salem , Wald and Beuron as well as the lords of Magenbuch were particularly well-to-do .

Thalheim in the Hohenzollern Lands

Thalheim became an exclave in 1535 : First in the middle of Zimmer and Fürstenberg , from 1806 Baden territory. The Thalheim exclave has belonged to the county of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen since 1576 , but was about six kilometers west of the actual Hohenzollern territory. After the Counts of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen were ruled, the place belonged to the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen from 1623 . As a result of the March Revolution in 1848 (regional: Revolution in Sigmaringen ), Prince Karl Anton von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen finally abdicated, so that the Principality fell to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1850 as the Hohenzollern Land . In 1871 Thalheim became part of the German Reich , but continued to exist as a Prussian exclave. It was only through the Baden-Württemberg district reform in 1973 that this situation could be remedied and a homogeneous structure without enclaves and exclaves created.

When Austria's feudal sovereignty over the place expired in 1805, Thalheim was in the administration of the Hohenzollern Oberamt Sigmaringen from 1806 . In 1823 the place was assigned to the Upper Bailiwick of Beuron , from 1830 to the Oberamt Wald and finally in 1862 again to the Oberamt Sigmaringen. The upper office Sigmaringen was in 1925 in the district of Sigmaringen on.

As part of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg , the previously independent municipality of Thalheim was incorporated into Leibertingen on January 1, 1975.

Population development

In 1885 the place had 413 inhabitants and in 1925 427 inhabitants, there are currently 622 (as of January 1, 2014).

Religions

A church and parish was named for the Catholic Thalheim in 1275. The independent parish belonged to the Laiz-Sigmaringen rural chapter. At the end of the 15th century Thalheim experienced the loss of parish rights. In future Thalheim was looked after by a vicar from Meßkirch. In 1817 the parish was reorganized. From the 1970s, Thalheim was supplied from Kreenheinstetten. 592 Catholic Christians currently live in Thalheim.

Culture and sights

art

  • The private gallery Wohlhüter is located in the village.

Buildings

  • The Catholic Parish Church of St. Laurentius
  • The massive, square tower of the original parish church from the 17th century still stands in the cemetery in Oberdorf. The former crenellated tower now serves as a memorial for the fallen of the two world wars.
  • The former rectory in the lower village, the so-called Jagdschlösschen , was built around the year 1740 by Prince Josef Friedrich von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen as a simple, two-gabled and plastered quarry stone building. At first it served mainly the responsible game warden. Later it was used as a rectory and also as a kindergarten. The building is now privately owned. The building underwent a thorough renovation under the new owners.
  • The former town hall in Mitteldorf was built in 1844.
  • The former farrenstall was converted into the St. Wendelin community center in 1984.
  • There are nine field crosses registered as small memorials in the area.

Regular events

  • The highlight of the annual event calendar is the Swabian-Alemannic carnival . Old nicknames that have not been documented and are hardly mentioned in writing are used here. So the name Lerchen could not be clearly explained for the people of Thalheim. The explanation is obvious, according to which the people of Thalheim have always enjoyed singing and still sing the Hohenzollern song with fervor as residents of a former Hohenzollern exclave in the midst of the Baden region . In 2011/2012 the figure of the Dahlem citizen was introduced to the charcoal burner guild . The historical background is the dispute with the Princely House of Hohenzollern in 1750 about the Thalheim forest. The then "Dahlemer" citizens were able to successfully obtain the forest property.
  • On Wendelinifest is the village of Holy Thalheim, Saint Wendelin , the patron saint for livestock and agriculture, thought. The festival has its origins in 1780, when Thalheim was threatened by a cattle disease. After pleading with Saint Wendelin, the patron saint of farmers who had been converted from the king's son to cattle herders and abbot, the people of Thalheim were freed from the cattle disease. Since then, the Wendelinifest has been celebrated annually in Thalheim on October 20th, the day of the saint's remembrance. It has now become a village holiday.
