The garrison battalion. I was an infantry joined the Prussian army .

history

This regiment was established in 1714 with the strength of a battalion and awarded to the then Colonel Jacques de Brion . Invalids from fortress Memel were called in for formation . It was enlarged by a grenadier company in 1735. In 1740 King Friedrich II assigned a second grenadier company to the battalion. Infantry regiments No. 2, 4, 11, 14 and 16 had to hand over the smallest people to their formation. At the same time the order was issued that the garrison battalion itself had to provide the most suitable crew for the establishment of the new field regiments and to replace the departures with new recruits. The king added a second battalion in 1743 and a third and fourth battalion made up of foreign recruits in 1756 . The regiment's two grenadier companies were put on the field budget in 1745 and used to form the standing grenadier battalion "Weyherr" . In 1787 the regiment gave four companies to the tribe of the fusilier battalion “von Thiele”, which in 1806 was called “von Wakenitz” and belonged to the first East Prussian fusilier brigade.

To establish depot battalions , the regiment took three companies each for the infantry regiments “von Donnersmarck” , “Voss” , “Wildau” , “Romberg” and “Favrat” in 1788 . The Leibcompanie was used to garrison Fort Lyck in the Spirdingsee . During the reorganization of the army in 1807, the Fusilier Battalion No. 3 was used to form the tribe of the 6th Infantry Regiment .

Battle calendar

Two companies of the "von Thiele" fusilier battalion, established in 1787, fought near Kunersdorf in 1759 , near Torgau in 1760 and near Saalfeld in 1761. In contrast, the regiment faced the Russians in 1757 and the Swedes in Pomerania in 1758, whereupon a battalion of the same in the Swinemünder Schanze and a battalion in Wollin fell into Swedish captivity. In 1761 the regiment defended Kolberg with great honor. However, at the surrender due to lack of food on December 16, it had to surrender to the Russian general Romanzov , who had been besieging the fortress since August 27.
