Location of Alvesse in Lower Saxony

Alvesse is a village in the municipality of Edemissen in the Peine district in Lower Saxony .

geography

Alvesse is located north of the district town of Peine between the two regional centers of Hanover and Braunschweig - away from the main thoroughfares on the edge of the Südheide.

history

The place Alvesse was first mentioned in 1220. From 1532 to 1885 the place belonged to the Gografschaft Edemissen in the Amt Meinersen. Then he came to the Peine district to this day.

In 1765 people were drowned for the last time in the Oker near Meinersen. The drowned people were a poisoner named Maria Dorothea Hänen (Hoyers) from Alvesse, who is said to have deliberately murdered her husband in 1765. At the same time, her maid, Anna Ilse Gieselern, was found guilty of aiding and abetting.

In 1965, the independent communities of Edemissen, Alvesse, Blumenhagen, Mödesse, Voigtholz-Ahlemissen and, since 1971, Oedesse were merged to form the joint municipality of Edemissen . In the course of the territorial reform in Lower Saxony , on March 1, 1974, the unified municipality of Edemissen was formed from the localities of the integrated municipality of Edemissen and eight other independent municipalities.

The residential area "Papenhorst" is 1.5 km northwest of Alvesse and was first mentioned in 1406. Today it consists of two isolated houses. In 1869, the "Pape Horster mill" was a post mill rebuilt and saw service until 1958. The mill was later sold and in the open-air museum Hesse Park as a windmill from the Papenhorst rebuilt.

Often there is confusion with Alvesse near Vechelde and Alvesse, Wüstung near Pattensen .

Place name

Former place names of Alvesse were around 1226 Aluedissem, around 1226 Aluedessen, around 1274 aluedissen, 1343 Aluessen, 1353 Aluedessen and Aluedessen, 1391 Alfersen, 1456 Aldesse, around 1564 Alvessen and 1564/1582 Alvesse. The starting point is the old name Alvedissem or Alvedessen. Probably a form with -es-husen -ssen is preferable. The further development of the name leads via Alvessen to Alvesse. In the first part of the place name, the name researcher Jürgen Udolph suspects a personal name; probably composed of Alf ( Old Saxon alf), Elf, Elfe, Alb and -ed-, such as Alv-ed-es-husen. The -ed- probably originated from the Low German -hēd (corresponds to High German -heid, as in Adelheid, for example), since this combination is known as a personal name, such as Albheid, Alfaidus, Alfheid. The place name Alvesse means "settlement near the houses of Alfhed".
