Amadeus (first name)
Amadeus is a male name.
Origin and meaning
The name Amadeus is made up of the imperative ama! ,love!' from Latin amare and deus 'God' together and originally means 'dear God!'. It is a compound of the rare type gr. Pheréoikos 'snail'. Size pheréoikos is made up of the imperative phere 'carry' and oikos 'house'. The compositional trailing element -oikos 'house' does not appear in the accusative ( -oikon ), but in the nominative, the case that belongs to the compound as a whole (with the new meaning 'snail' instead of 'carry-a-house') in the sentence. It's the same with Amadeus .
Interpretations as Amadeus as Deus amat , God loves' or its liabilities reversals, loved by God 'are certainly popular etymology, otherwise also as if Phereoikos formed type name Fear God , too, fear God' or 'feared God' mean.
The Greek name Theophilos has the original meaning 'friend of God' and is therefore not directly comparable with the Latin Amadeus. Like Amadeus, the German name Gottlieb can be used as 'liebe Gott!' or be interpreted as 'dear as God'. Slavic translations are Bogumil and Bogoljub .
