The Amashca district is located in the Carhuaz province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on December 14, 1934. It has an area of ​​13.2 km². The 2017 census counted 1528 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1816, in 2007 it was 1647. The district administration is located in the 2850  m high village of Amashca with 755 inhabitants (as of 2017). Amashca is just 5 km north of the provincial capital Carhuaz .

Geographical location

The Amashca district is located on the western flank of the Cordillera Blanca in the north of the Carhuaz province.

The Amashca district is bordered by the Tinco district to the south, the Mancos district ( Yungay province ) to the west and north, and the Shilla district to the east .
