Amphoe Bacho ( Thai : อำเภอ บาเจาะ ) is the northernmost administrative district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of Narathiwat Province . The province of Narathiwat is located in the southeast of the southern region of Thailand on the border with Malaysia.

Adjacent counties and areas are (from east clockwise): Amphoe Mueang Narathiwat , Yi-ngo and Rueso Narathiwat province, Raman District of Yala province and Amphoe Kapho , Sai Buri and May Kaen the province of Pattani .

The Sankarakhiri mountain ranges form a natural border between Thailand and Malaysia in the south.

history

Bacho was initially set up in 1908 as a small district ( King Amphoe ) with the name Champako ( จำปา กอ ), which received full amphoe status the following year. In 1918, Champako was renamed Paro Nuea, and in 1931 Bacho finally got its current name.

Until 1932, Bacho was part of Sai Buri Province. When this was dissolved in 1932, Sai Buri came to Pattani Province, while Bacho was assigned to Narathiwat Province.

Attractions

  • Parts of the National Park "Budo-Su-Ngai-Padi" (Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ บู โด - สุไหงปาดี ) are located in the mountains that border on Yala and Pattani. The area used to be home to mostly guerrilla troops, so only a few people could enjoy the beauty of the pristine jungle. Only with the establishment of the Bacho Waterfall Park (today Budo-Su-Ngai-Padi) in 1974 did the situation change. The park is about 294  km² .
  • Wat Choeng Khao: Temple around 13  km from the Amphoe; Luang Pho Daeng, a revered Buddhist monk in the area, taught here

Local administration

There are two small towns ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the county:

  • Bacho (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาเจาะ ) consists of parts of the Tambon Bacho,
  • Don Sai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ต้นไทร ) consists of parts of the Tambon Paluka Samo.

There are also six “tambon administration organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) for the tambon or the parts of tambon in the county that do not belong to any town.
