Amphoe Ban Mi ( Thai : อำเภอ บ้านหมี่ ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the west of Lop Buri Province . Lop Buri Province is located in the central region of Thailand .

geography

The main water resource of Ban Mi is Maenam Bang Kham (Bang Kham River) and Khlong Anusasanan (Anusasanan Canal) .

Neighboring Amphoe are seen from the northeast: Amphoe Nong Muang , Khok Samrong , Mueang Lop Buri and Tha Wung of Lop Buri Province, Amphoe In Buri of Sing Buri Province and Amphoe Takhli of Nakhon Sawan Province .

history

The county was founded in 1883 under the name Sanam Chaeng. When the administration was moved to Ban Huay Kaew, the district was renamed Huay Kaew at the same time. In 1898, the Northern Railway Line of the State Railway of Thailand was built through the county, so the administration was moved to Ban Sao ( บ้าน เซ่า ) and the name of the county was renamed Sanam Chaeng again. In 1914 it was renamed Ban Sao, the name of the tambon in which the administration was located. In 1940, Ban Mi finally got its current name.

etymology

Ban Mi is the name of an old settlement of the Phuan tribe who emigrated from Laos to Siam around 1870 . They named their new village after the way they wove cotton and silk: Mat Mi ( มัดหมี่ ) in Thai. Even today there are numerous companies that sell their award-winning products via OTOP ( One Tambon One Product ) .

Attractions

• Wat Khao Wongkhot (Thai: วัด เขา วงกต ) - Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) at the foot of Sanam Daeng Mountain. There is a large cave in the mountain where bats sleep during the day. Around 6:00 p.m., the bats leave the cave in a spectacular swarm to search for food. It takes up to two hours for everyone to leave the cave. The temple generates a small income by selling bat droppings.
