Amphoe Mae Sai (in Thai : อำเภอ แม่สาย , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː mɛ̂ː sǎːj ) is the northernmost district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of Chiang Rai Province . Chiang Rai Province is located in the north of the northern region of Thailand .

geography

Mae Sai is about 62 kilometers north of the provincial capital Chiang Rai .

The neighboring Amphoe are clockwise from the east: Chiang Saen , Mae Chan and Mae Fa Luang . To the north across the Mae Sai River lies Myanmar.

There are numerous mountains in the western part of the district, the most important of which is Doi Tung. At the top is the Wat Phra That Doi Tung temple.

The main border crossing from Thailand to Myanmar is located in the Amphoe Mae Sai , where the Asian Highway AH2 (Thai Highway 1 or Thanon Phahonyothin ) crosses the Maenam Mae Sai to the city of Tachilek in Myanmar.

history

Mae Sai was set up on March 1, 1939, initially as a "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) by separating the Tambon Mae Sai and Pong Pha from Chiang Saen County. On May 1, 1950, he was raised to full amphoe status.

Mae Sai County is divided into eight tambon ("subdistricts" or "parishes"), which are further subdivided into 88 muban ("villages").

There are four municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

  • Mae Sai Mittraphap (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่สาย มิตรภาพ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Mae Sai.
  • Mae Sai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่สาย ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Mae Sai, Wiang Phang Kham.
  • Huai Khrai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ห้วย ไคร้ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Huai Khrai.
  • Wiang Phang Kham (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เวียง พา ง คำ ) consisting of parts of the tambon Wiang Phang Kham.

In addition, there are six " tambon administration organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)

  • Huai Khrai (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ห้วย ไคร้ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Huai Khrai.
  • Ko Chang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล เกาะ ช้าง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Ko Chang.
  • Pong Pha (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล โป่ง ผา ) consisting of the complete Tambon Pong Pha.
  • Si Mueang Chum (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ศรี เมือง ชุม ) consisting of the complete tambon Si Mueang Chum.
  • Ban Dai (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล บ้าน ด้าย ) consisting of the complete tambon Ban Dai.
  • Pong Ngam (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล โป่ง งาม ) consisting of the complete Tambon Pong Ngam.
