Amphoe Phan ( Thai : อำเภอ พาน , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː pʰāːn ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in Chiang Rai Province . Chiang Rai Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .
geography
Amphoe Phan is located in the south of the province, the distance to the provincial capital Chiang Rai is about 40 kilometers.
Neighboring districts (from the southwest clockwise): Amphoe Wiang Pa Pao , Mae Suai , Mae Lao , Mueang Chiang Rai and Pa Daet , Chiang Rai Province, Amphoe Mae Chai the province of Phayao and Amphoe Wang Nuea the province of Lampang .
economy
There are numerous, very extensive fish farms in the district . The cichlid Oreochromis niloticus (in Thai: ปลา นิล - "Pla Nin"), which is even exported to Europe, is bred here almost exclusively . Some products from the OTOP (" One Tambon One Product ") range are made from this fish , such as fish paste ( น้ำพริกเผา ปลา นิล ) or rice crackers (( ปลา นิล )
history
Amphoe Phan was developed by settlers from the Lamphun area in the 1840s . Until the early 20th century, the district belonged to the Lamphun province as an exclave , because emigrants of the Tai peoples traditionally retained the ties to their ruler, even if they settled in a different environment and the modern provinces in northern Thailand from the earlier principalities Lan Nas originated. It was only after these were finally abolished that the demarcation was simplified and Amphoe Phan was added to the Chiang Rai province.
Attractions
- The Phra That Chom Wae ( พระ ธาตุ จอม แว่ ) is located on an ancient Lanna pilgrim route, the route of the Nine Sacred Chedis , all of which are in the Chiag Rai province. The route begins at Phra That Doi Chom Thong in Chiang Rai and ends again in Chiang Rai at Phra That Chom Sak.

- Doi Luang National Park (Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติ ดอย หลวง ) around the 1,694 meter high Doi Luang ( ยอด ดอย หลวง ) mountain - there are numerous waterfalls worth seeing, such as the Cham Pa Thong waterfall (( จำปา ทอง ) or the Pu-Kaeng waterfall ( น้ำตก ปู แกง ), as well as some accessible caves, such as the Tham Nang Phaya Pang ( ถ้ำ นางพญา ปาง ).

There are two municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:
- San Makhet (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สัน มะ เค็ ด ) consisting of the complete Tambon San Makhet.
- Mueang Phan (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เมือง พาน ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Mueang Phan.
There are also 14 " tambon administration organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)
- Mae O (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล แม่ อ้อ ) consisting of the complete tambon Mae O.
- Than Thong (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ธาร ทอง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Than Thong.
