The Michelstadt office was an office of the County of Erbach and in the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

function

In the early modern period , offices were a level between the municipalities and the sovereignty . The functions of administration and jurisdiction were not separated here. The office was headed by a bailiff who was appointed by the rulers.

history

The Mark Michelstadt came after 24 February 1232 report transmission Lorsch Abbey to the Archbishopric of Mainz levels and the resulting clashes between Mainz and the Palatinate as the owner of the Bailiwick to the taverns of Erbach . The center of Michelstadt included Michelstadt, Steinbach , Fürstenau Castle , Asselbrunn , Stockheim , Bullau , Eulbach , Würzberg , Weiten-Gesäß , Momart , Zell , Rehbach , Langenbrombach , Steinbuch , Ober-Mossau and Unter-Mossau .

When the county was divided in 1718, the Michelstadt office came into the possession of the Counts of Erbach-Fürstenau . Here was the Erbacher law and - subsidiary - the Common Law when the Erbacher right for a fact no provision offered. This legal situation was only replaced on January 1, 1900 by the civil code that was uniformly applicable throughout the German Empire .

With the Rhine Federation Act in 1806, the county of Erbach became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and, here, the province of Starkenburg . However, the Count of Erbach-Fürstenau continued to exercise sovereign rights in the area he had previously ruled; the state monopoly of force was shared here.

Between 1820 and 1822 there was an administrative reform in the Grand Duchy. With it, jurisdiction and administration were separated at the lower level . District districts were created for the administrative tasks previously performed in the offices, and district courts for the first instance jurisdiction. The Michelstadt office was dissolved in 1822. Its administrative tasks were now taken over by the district council of Erbach , the jurisdiction was handled by the Michelstadt district court.
